Sweet. As far as the aspect to which I was alluding, how should I put this, it's not like I have had any personal desire to visit Colorado either, but I wholeheartedly approve of that kind of freedom in principle.

I got an iPhone 8. My last one was a 5s from years ago, and it was seriously acting up.

I went to the Oshogatsu Festival in L. A.'s Little Tokyo earlier today - mostly to hang out with people from my Japanese meetup group and eat ramen, but it's basically an infinitely-better alternative to joining 275,000,000 other people packed like sidewalk sardines along the route of the Rose Parade.
(And yesterday, I drove past a long line of floats as they were being driven from a float-preparation facility in Baldwin Park to Pasadena, so I already had a sneak-preview parade. XD )

I just got a bizarre e-mail from Amazon.com. Based on my "recent visit," they think I might be interested in ice cream makers. I've never looked at ice cream makers on Amazon in my life, nor anything else related to ice cream. The most recent items in my Amazon browsing history (and the only ones from the past week) are the 2018 Tolkien Calendar and the 7-inch vinyl box set of the Beatles' Christmas Records. How the hell do those lead to ice cream makers?

I just installed chrome, since I will need it to take the LFCS exam. My first impression is that Google really hates their customers and wants them to be able to do next to nothing with their browser. My second observation is that yahoo.com is infested with malicious ads and should never be clicked on without an ad blocker installed.

Instead of throwing out cryptic negative generalizations I suggest it would be more productive to state along the lines of, "I want to do X with my Chrome browser but as far as I can tell there's no way to do it." Then someone could all either commiserate with you (Yeah I agree it totally sux that we can't anonymously "donate" spare blood fractions with Chrome, Tor lets me do that all the live-long day) or point you in the right direction ( Stupid Chrome can't even read ROT-13. Can too.)

Also, the oft-noted fact that Google's actual browser customers are advertisers might have something to do with why you, the user who downloaded their ad-supported product, can't do X with it.

Okay: Chrome does not allow you to customize your desktop the same way that firefox does. This occurs regardless of an ad blocker being installed. I will be spending major time on help boards trying to do everyday things which are trivial on firefox which are apparently unsupported in chrome (like organizing bookmarks and making them accessible). Also, google knows of these shortcomings and has zero interest in fixing them since this is the way they built it and everyone else should just use it and shut up.

Click the dots in the upper right-hand corner. Choose Settings>Show bookmarks bar:toggle on.
To import your bookmarks from Firefox: Click the dots in the right-hand corner. Bookmarks>Import bookmarks and settings...>Mozilla Firefox>Import.
You can edit links by right clicking on them in the bookmarks menu or bar. You can add new folders and rearrange their order as well.

What else do you want to do?

We got a cat with our Juice=Juice money about 3 months back and she's adorable. She's a long haired Scottish Fold.

We named her Eri.

Also me and Roy decided to get married out of no where on Xmas and that happened. ;o

I'm teaching for the first time during my PhD program this quarter. Well, I'm just a TA and I lead discussions, but that's usually what you do first. I've been a TA before, and I had to lead 6 discussions a week, but this feels different because it's the University of Chicago so the undergrads are probably pretty damn intelligent. I mean, this is a school where some students built a nuclear reactor for the annual scavenger hunt once. Also, a lot of undergrads think they're more intelligent than the grad students.

Maybe they are? Education and intelligence are not the same thing.
